The Torr Home original charity was founded in 1860, as 'The Devonport and Western Counties Association for Promoting the General Welfare of the Blind' and in 1929 moved to our current home in Hartley. We have established ourselves as a premier care home in Plymouth that provides nursing, respite, end of life care and dementia care services. We also have excellent retirement apartments with scenic views for those in need.
Torr Home is situated in a beautiful 19th-century country mansion in the highest part of the City of Plymouth. It is a grand setting for a nursing and retirement home, having extensive, private grounds of three acres and enjoys panoramic views over the City of Plymouth, Dartmoor and out to sea over Plymouth Sound.
The Glentor Centre was a later addition to the site offering specialist dementia care for 16 residents and we have also recently adapted part of the main home, now called Belltor which offers extra dementia beds due to a rising need both locally and nationally.
