It might look good on the surface, but it’s got lots of room for improvement. You can’t fault the Carers, they work extremely hard caring for the residents in the time they have. Even the kitchen, cleaners & laundry staff all work hard. Communication is a massive problem. You would think any Carer or Nurse that attends your relative would know all about them, but quite often they don’t. You ask questions, no-one knows, you pass messages on, no-one gets them. You report a problem, management aren’t told or get back to you. You come in, it’s a different Carer or Nurse. Yes, they have shifts, yes they have rota’s, but it falls down with lack of communication which is so frustrating and exhausting to relatives. Two other massive problems are drinks and toileting. Drinks, or lack of them - there might be drinks offered morning noon & night but in between residents can be left dry or a cup put down which a resident can’t pick up to drink. Toileting - residents can buzz and wait far far too long for someone to attend to their need. Or not know how to buzz and sit in it for hours. Drinks and toileting are often noted by relatives of residents who then seek a Carer to help them. I’m not someone just doing a review, I’m a relative to a resident that has seen many changes in management, Carers and nurses. I talk to management to make my feelings known. Praying things will improve for all future residents and their families. J N
